Today marks a significant milestone in our company’s journey. I am excited and proud to announce that Kasia Kowalewska and Paul Allen are now officially Partners at Revolve Engineering Inc. I have been so lucky to work with both Kasia and Paul for over 7 years now and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter of our partnership will bring.
Not many people know this but Revolve was started 12 years ago with a close friend and partner. We shared a vision of working only on sustainable projects and pushing the industry to build greener buildings. That hope and idealism was swiftly tested by the jarring reality of a market which did not yet see the value of net zero buildings, and by crashing methane (natural gas) prices which cratered to insane lows for over a decade; using 80% less energy didn’t matter when methane was so cheap. I won’t lie, there was some dark days when my idealism was tested; two became one. After about 5 years working alone, the energy landscape started to shift and the demand for energy consultants and energy modelling picked up (it’s wild to think that before the energy codes were adopted in Alberta that almost NO buildings used energy models). It was at that time that Kasia and Paul joined me (within a couple of months of each other) and I can’t believe my luck at the timing; I couldn’t find better colleagues if I tried. It’s been an awesome ride ever since. I can’t remember even one time where we’ve had an argument or a day I wasn’t glad that they were on my team.
Kasia's ability for effortlessly switching between being a close friend, a fun person to laugh with, a listening ear, and a true professional is amazing. She walks the perfect line of authenticity, professionalism, and friendship. I will always be glad to have her by my side. She is our reminder that life is short, that we must seize the day and always remember to enjoy life. She shares our passion for building the best workplace we can imagine, and she is part of the reason why our culture is what it is today. Her pride in what we've accomplished on that front makes me proud. She is always advancing not just our processes and quality of work, but our bigger Why.
Paul's amazing dry humour, easy going and calm personality, his professionalism and attention to detail (and his amazing GIF skills) make him such an awesome person to work with. He is never in a bad mood and always a joy to be around; I truly value his friendship. I always enjoy working through detailed problems with Paul, putting our collective brain to borough down into a rabbit hole. I can’t believe I used to discourage him from this - Paul reminded me that this is exactly what we are good at, why I started Revolve in the first place, and what we should be doing. Knowing something in excruciating detail is what sets us apart.
Kasia and Paul, I am honoured, humbled and privileged to have worked alongside you for seven incredible years. Your dedication, talent, and passion have propelled us to new heights, and I have no doubt that our future endeavors will continue to advance our collective vision. Together, let us keep building a more sustainable future, one project at a time.
