Revolve Engineering Inc. was selected to perform an indepth study to determine if building a Zero Carbon Crop Diversification Centre was possible and financially feasible. Through extensive energy modelling, research and collaboration with the client, design concepts were developed for the main office and lab building; the thermal connection to 3 other buildings on site was considered in tandem. The proposed concept proposed in the report successfully achieves Net Zero Energy and would integrate the 4 buildings into one shared "community" energy sharing system that would significantly reduce install costs and allow for energy sharing between buildings. Through costing provided by an independend cost consultant, the proposed net zero ready design (without solar PV) was found to be the least expensive of the four options examined (proposed plus 3 traditional options). The study showed definitively that depending on the application, building high performance net zero buildings can actually reduce installation costs.
