Mosaic Centre - Net Zero Office

The 30,000 ft2 Mosaic Centre is the very first Net Zero office building in Canada! The building features a 32 borehole geothermal system, a 212 kW solar system, dual-core energy recovery, glulam construction and many other sustainable features. Revolve Engineering, aside from the geothermal system design, provided detailed consulting and energy modelling services through every stage of the project to help guide the building towards Net Zero. The building was built using Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget.

One of the many lessons learned from the project is that the geothermal system is essential in achieving Net Zero; other options were explored (including air source heat pumps) but after detailed feasibility studies it became clear that you simply can't beat the efficiency of the geothermal system, which reduced the size of the PV system by 40 kW or $150,000. This means that the payback for the geothermal was better than immediate; it was actually $80,000 cheaper!

VISIT THE PROJECT

Though it seems insurmountable, the team behind the Mosaic Centre believes they have a solution that will make net-zero buildings commonplace ten years from now in the province of Alberta. Our team comes from a variety of professional backgrounds but we all have one thing in common: we want MORE for commercial workspaces and the construction industry in general.
