Fort St John RCMP Detachment (NZ)

Achieving Net Zero Energy in a remote northern climate can be challenging, especially for a 24/7 occupied building. However, with a high performance envelope, dual core ERVs and a geothermal system, this 4,445 m2 RCMP detachment in Fort St. John shows that Net Zero is possible even in Northern climates. Interestingly, even in this cold climate, because of the internal gains from lighting, equipment and people, this building is cooling dominant (more heat is rejected into the ground than extracted). This is a good thing however as the geothermal system is much more efficient in cooling (because of the relatively low ground temperature).

The project is close to completing construction (Aug 2021).
