The Windermere Fire Station is Edmonton's first Net Zero Fire Station. The building will feature in-floor heating throughout, with a VRF system for heating and cooling the main station areas. The building features high efficiency ERVs as well as a 35 borehole geothermal system, designed to cover all of the station’s heating and cooling requirements. One of the big challenges on this project were the large overhead doors (used frequently) which increased the heating demand significantly. The building also features a large Solar Array sized to meet the net energy demands over a year, making the building Net Zero Energy.
The project is currently under construction (Aug 2021).
